APPLIQUÉ
Appliqué is a technique used in many sewing operations and is especially effective in quilting.
In a very simple form - a shape of fabric is applied to a fabric back ground and stitched in place. This shape is usually of a different colour to the background and can be very striking when finished.
To achieve this easily the appliqué can be ironed in position, using one of a few products available for doing this, before stitching round the edges to permanently secure the fabric.
More complicated appliqués can be layered with different fabrics to build up designs.
TIP: To start with keep the shapes simple while you try out this technique.
